Fall Colors

While we believe photos should be taken year-round, fall is a fabulous season to be a photographer. With changing foliage, football, back-to-school transitions, pumpkins, Halloween parties, and trick-or-treating costumes you have a plethora of subjects to photograph.

In many parts of the country, fall is a colorful season of changing leaves as Mother Nature makes the transition from summer to fall. Sometimes the prime window is only a day or two long, depending on the weather. The sunlight changes in the fall too, enhancing the golden glow for shooting outdoors with a palette of rich reds, golden yellows and warm oranges. A polarizing filter is a helpful tool to capture the rich, saturated colors without glare, whether you're shooting on a sunny or cloudy day.

Enjoy Mother Nature's transition through your lens and share your favorite photos with us!

How do I Clean my Metal Print?

Unlike many other print media such as canvas, photographic paper and acrylic, metal prints are easy to clean. Metal prints can be cleaned with a soft cloth and any all-purpose household cleaner. Furthermore, the cleaner can be sprayed directly to the metal print and then wiped or with a cloth as needed. Since metal prints are easy to clean and will not degrade due to oils from skin they can be touched with being damaged.

How Durable are Metal Prints?

Metal prints are in fact very durable and can be expected to last in excess of 100 years. When tested for fading, metal prints lasted two to four times longer than leading photo papers. The most recent fade testing shows that metal prints will last a lifetime with resistance to yellowing and climate damage. Additionally, metal prints by Pixel2Metal are scratch resistant, waterproof, and will not tear.

An added benefit with metal prints is that you don't have to worry about breakage as metal prints don't need to be protected under glass or acrylic.

It's Hip to be Square

With the popularity of Instagram and cameras such as Holga there has been a resurgence in square format photography.

In fact, square format photography has been around for many years. Long before the digital age many photographers started in medium format with a camera that shot 6x6cm negatives. However, today with Photoshop and Lightroom and other photo editing software on your phone you can easily take a photo and crop it square.

Why the appeal to Square Format Photography?

The change in composition is refreshing and a new approach for many photographers. The simplicity of a square provides a certain inherent beauty and elegance to a well composed square image. There is little wasted space with a square photo. Eliminating any superfluous elements in your image can enhance them by just featuring the main subject.

With square format photography it comes back to having a single subject. You don't want to split the viewer's attention. You will want to move in close, or crop fairly tightly on the subject. Utilizing a single subject you will provide greater detail and add some depth to the image. Including some backgrounds for context is okay, but make sure that the background stays in the background.

Square Metal Prints

Now that you have begun to shoot square images the question becomes what do you do with all those cool images. Well, we think at Pixel2Metal that they would look great made into a metal print. A metal print adds another dimension and uniqueness to your images. At Pixel2Metal, we offer a variety of sizes and finishes for your square images. For single square metal prints, we offer the very popular 4"x4" and the larger 12"x12" sizes. For true lovers of square images we offer square metal duets. Your image is printed on a square metal panel that floats 1/2 inch above another square metal print. The larger background metal print can be either another one of your images or one of our designer backgrounds as illustrated in the photo to this blog post.

Happy shooting,
Mike
